Our school is the 5th and 6th grade center for the district. All 5th graders in the building (over 500!) rotate through my class on a 7 school day cycle. 6th graders choose different electives each quarter. Over 180 6th graders will participate in STEM class this year.
STEM is a new specials/elective class this year and the students are excited about learning in our STEM Stations.
We're not only learning about STEM, but also about perseverance and working as a team.
My Project
STEM Stations in my classroom foster the 21st-century skills of creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Students are able to generate, test, and improve ideas; learn through exploration and experimentation; and use their imagination to create new things.
My students love building structures with specific constraints and feeling like "real electricians" as they work with circuits.
I would like to give them more opportunities to explore these skills by adding additional STEM stations with these circuit-building and bridge-building kits.
The Smart Circuits Games & Gadgets Electronics Labs will take our exploration of circuitry to the next level. With these kits, students will use real circuit boards and jumper wires to create 50 different projects while learning about electricity, light, and sound. With the Discovering STEM Structures Constructions & Bridges Construction Kits, students will learn more about bridge structures as they build a variety of bridge types (including suspension, truss, and beam). The additional items requested (charger, batteries, jumper wires, alligator clips) are needed to support these kits and our existing STEM Stations.
