Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a small K-5 school that opened its doors in 1926 and now consists of about 300 students. In my classroom, I have 30 students who are willing to overcome any obstacle in order to reach their goals.
My children are active, hard working, creative, and resilient.
88% of our students come from low income homes, and many of them seek comfort, guidance, and motivation. Even when things start to get tough, my students come in eager to learn.
My Project
Every scientist needs a laboratory in which to work...and so do our 5th grade engineers! The materials that I have selected will help build a STEM station in our classroom so that my students do not just read about science, but they get to experience it with their own hands!
With a STEM station, student learning will go much deeper than just reading about a topic because students will have the opportunity to think critically and apply the science, technology, engineering, and math that they are learning in class.
I want my students to be able to use their creativity and curiosity to build something that they can't wait to tell their parents about. A STEM station that includes items like Littlebits' Gizmos and Gadgets and National Geographic's bone and fossil excavation kits will allow my students to feel like real-life engineers and archaeologists.
