Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my classroom are sixth-grade, special education students. They have intellectual, sensory, and emotional impairments that are aided by inclusion in a small classroom setting. My students struggle with mathematics concepts and this year, our goals are to build confidence in our foundation math skills and to become more engaged with our learning.

My students work together as a community based on their learning styles and interests.

They work very hard, and a big issue for them is the retention of topics. I am always looking for new and interesting ways to help them to thrive and remember different topics. We are a part of a large school that celebrates inquisitive learning. All of my students are working hard towards high school and college by relating all of their topics to real-world​ situations.

My Project

My students are amazing! But they are struggling in a pandemic and are having difficulty coping. They want to work hard and strive to succeed and participate every day! I have been creating prize and reward stations where students are receiving a prize for their hard work to boost their confidence and keep them working hard!

I am requesting a variety of candy and Gatorade for our rewards snack closet during math and science.

Students can choose candy or Gatorade as a prize on days where they are trying their hardest. That keeps them motivated and happy coming to school each day!

It changes their entire mood to earn a prize for their hard work! We are a STEM school and also earn prizes in order to complete our assignments that deal with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics!
