My students are from a rural, low-income school district. There are approximately 30-40 students per grade level with fifty percent qualifying for free or reduced lunch.
My students strive to do their best daily.
They are excited about STEM class and look forward to the challenges put before them. They would benefit from having the opportunity to use the LEGO kits in small groups to integrate math and science skills through the use of problem-solving, collaboration, creativity, engineering, and technology.
My Project
I implemented STEM into our science curriculum a year ago to help our students enhance their 21st-century skills. Currently, I am using recycled materials and my personal requisition to purchase materials from the dollar store to supplement the curriculum. I would love the opportunity to implement STEM resources with more access to technology and coding.
For many students, STEM is the highlight of their day.
The students enjoy working collaboratively to complete the design challenges put before them. They are excited to design, test, and make improvements to produce success. The Lego WeDO kit would give my students exciting resources such as an electronic Smarthub, a motor, motion sensor, tilt sensor, and Lego building blocks to learn more about life science, physical science, earth science, and space science. In addition to physical resources, the kit also includes software and apps to teach the students about programming and a digital curriculum to help the students get the most out of the kit. My students would embrace and love the challenges presented in Lego WeDo 2.0!
