This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from several different areas and live inside the city limits. They are very active in and outside of the classroom. Most of my students are involved in some type of extracurricular activity on the weekends like playing football, basketball, baseball, cheerleading, and/or soccer. Our school has electives that the students can become involved in such as band, STEM, and art. Older students also have sports to choose from like football, cheerleading, baseball, basketball, and track. I have several students who love to draw, most of the time on my desk!
My Project
Through STEM education, schools are teaching the design thinking concept of understanding a problem, creating a solution, testing and iterating on it, and once perfected, sharing it with the world. While the ultimate goal is to attract students into STEM careers because the U.S. has a shortage of skilled workers in fields such as engineering and computer science, the skills students learn from STEM are applicable to everything they do. Although our STEM Lab isn’t fully functional, it will be with the help of these supplies and other supplies soon to be purchased for our school’s STEM Lab. Thanks in advance!
