I am a third-year teacher. I teach at a low-income, high poverty school district. My students arrive with very few supplies. They face many challenges to their learning each day. Regardless, they are very creative and love to learn.
My students are incredibly enthusiastic learners, always excited to use new materials I bring to the classroom.
As a teacher in a low-income district, I am struggling to find materials for my students.
My students appreciate when I bring in something new for them to use. Their eyes light up and excited questions are asked when I sort through new supplies or bring out new materials.
My Project
My classroom is an environment that encourages students to be hands on. We have many opportunities for STEM activities in our classroom.
My class would like read aloud books that relate to the fields of Science Technology Engineering and Math fields.
We use STEM bins in the classroom that have various building materials. Sometimes my students use picture cards to get ideas or build their own creative designs. STEM themes provide opportunities for a growth mindset, inventive thinking, and real world applications. These books help spark ideas for students in the classroom and for future careers. Access to read aloud books with STEM themes allow my students to continue their creative process.
