Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are the Champion Learners and we love challenges. We are in a rural school district with a large part of our population receiving free or reduced lunch, moderate poverty, rural area. Our kids are great, but finding resources is a bit difficult.
Being a rural school means that access to the community, libraries and recreational centers are difficult, especially if you don't have reliable transportation.
I have worked here for 5 years and I think we have the best students. My class is hard working , smart, ambitious and super competitive. This year they raised over 300.00 for childhood cancer. Their curious nature keeps me on my toes and they love a challenge.
My Project
I have always been a lover of science and math. I saw these STEM oriented tubs that students did every morning that built problem solving, team work and critical thinking skills and I was all in. Unfortunately the entire program cost over 700.00 dollars. I knew that I could not afford this for my kiddos.
My first graders are curious by age and nature.
They love learning about movement and mechanics, they are great builders.If given an opportunity they can grow and learn as well as possibly go into professions that involve engineering and math. One of my students last year just made a treadmill that makes it's own electricity and presented it at a science expo. I want to continue to emphasize science and math in my class room.
