My students need a multi rotor flight controller, a motor, battery charger, and other elements that will help us build a drone - our first ever autonomous quadcopter drone built from scratch parts.
STEM Capstone is a new class offered at our high school. Students must complete an independent research STEM project for the class. Due to this being a very new class, I have not been able to obtain the funds necessary to help every student.
My students are motivated and self-directed individuals.
They have aspirations to attend top institutions of higher education. Their interests and professional goals range from programming and engineering to nursing and medical researching. Additionally, students in my class are well rounded with extracurricular activities including, surfing, swimming, mock-trial, and student government.
My Project
We need a multi rotor flight controller, a motor, battery charger, and other elements that will help us build a drone - our first ever autonomous quadcopter drone built from scratch parts. Students will build a Quadcopter for our high school as both many individual projects and to help the school’s yearbook, custodian, and media staff through various community needs. Materials needed for the Quadcopter are motors, rotors, frame, flight controller, battery and battery charger. Together these main components will allow students to complete an educational build with positive impacts.
The drone is designed to be very versatile and have swappable parts. Impacts will reach beyond one classroom. Yearbook and media staff can use the drone for access to significantly more angles and positions to take pictures at school events. Custodians can use the drone to help with maintenance of the school and identifying certain areas that need cleaning or repair. Finally the drone can be used to as a teaching aid/activity for physics and chemistry teachers.
Donations will enable students to have a real-world learning experience.
Students will research, design, build, and revise a technological tool to aid their school community. This becomes an unmeasurable project in terms of value added.
