My Students
For seven years I have been a pre-kindergarten teacher to some of the brightest stars in New York City. I work at a title 1 school in the South Bronx, where resources are limited for our children.
My students work and play hard; they love coming to school and deserve the best.
That being said, I want to add more resources into our classroom that will further engage my students in their learning,
I adore my students and want to provide many different learning experiences. However, we need access to more materials to make this a possibility.
My Project
Integrated learning is the basis of Early Childhood Education. We teach children that everything is connected. My goal is to incorporate more STEM activities into my classroom to further this idea.
My students would be using snowflake and gear builders in ways that help them become critical thinkers, as they work together to figure out the endless possibilities to their creations.
Materials like magnetic building blocks and interlocking building set will be used to teach mathematical concepts like sorting and patterning. All of these interlocking materials will be used to teach engineering concepts like building small and tall structures, and how to problem solve in the event a problem arises, for example, what to do if a structure is unable to stand on its own.
I want to present new challenges to my students in ways that they can be completely engaged and the reality is that they need access to multiple resources to make this happen. It is my mission to provide hands on materials that spark new questions, discourse, and problem-solving skills, which is tremendously important in the prekindergarten program.
