Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I and a low-performing school in a low-income community. However, just because they do not have many material possessions, does not mean that their passion for learning is any smaller than other students. What I have learned since the beginning of school, in fact, is that they love to come to school and learn. They love to have meaningful conversations and academic support from the teacher.
My students are resilient in learning.
They might not have parents who read to them everyday. They might not have quality conversations at home. They might not have crayons or papers at home to practice their writing. They've never been in a school before or have someone teach them the letters of their names. But everyday in our classroom, they are learning. They try their best. Sometimes they fail and are disappointed, but they try again everyday to do their best and be the best possible version of themselves. That is what I love the most about my students.
My Project
STEM is all around us, incorporated into every aspect of our daily lives. It is very important in 21st century classrooms to ensure that our students learn through inquiry and exploration. However, being a first year teacher, I have limited resources and have limitations providing what is essential in our STEM education. I have inherited very few STEM materials, and the ones I have in the classroom are falling apart and looking rather sad.
With new STEM materials, I will be able to engage students in our weekly STEM centers on Fridays.
Every Friday is Fun Friday where we are using STEM materials to learn. My students will learn to problem-solve, experiment, and be creative. They will build bridges, they will engineer structures, they will work together to build towns and cities, and they will develop their brains to be STEM thinkers! Engaging STEM materials will help students drive their own education, where they are motivated and focused. Student-driven education will help them grow up to be successful mathematicians, engineers, scientists, and technology-gurus. Please help them learn STEM is our past, our present, and our future. Gift them the brighter future in STEM!
