My students are an eclectic group of boys and girls with special needs that do not stand in their way. They range in age from 8 to 11. They are part of our school's multiple disabilities program, but they function more like a family.
The teacher for this class took a leave of absence just before school started, and I was lucky enough to be called upon to work with this unique group.
In November, their teacher returned, only to leave permanently in early February.
Like the rest of the country, we are now trying to keep pace with distance learning. Although most necessary, continuity has been impossible to achieve. There are so many factors in play that make e-learning even more challenging for this group. Some factors include economic challenges, behavioral issues, language barriers, and working parents. They are very much in need of hands-on activities for learning. I am hoping to begin the type of programming they need and deserve by appealing to Donors Choose.
My Project
There is no denying that there’s something so exciting about electronics! So often kids need only a spark to set their imagination and creativity in motion. Imagine kids building a computer or inventing their own game. With the proper guidance, it can happen.
Providing children with kits that allow them to explore while learning at home is a true gift.
Parents can spend time with their kids playing with something educational for both. Who knows what they might learn?
What’s actually inside an iPad or a mobile phone? Electronic kits help answer these types of questions and will make kids think about the objects and toys in their lives.
