My 20 students are a diverse set of learners that need a lot of hands-on experiences. My school is located in a more rural area of a larger city. My students come from a lower socioeconomic area and are in need of experiences that can be provided at school to increase their ability to retain and increased their academic knowledge and vocabulary.
As a National board teacher, I have deeply reflected on what classroom changes I can make to reach all my learners.
I have made the move to flexible seating and incorporating many small group activities into our daily schedule. I have also looked to include more play and student-centered activities to increase their experiences and social skills. This project can help increase the manipulatives and experiences for my students.
My Project
I am seeking materials for my classroom that will give my students plenty of STEM experiences. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math are the ways of the future that includes building, problem-solving and collaborating. I am looking to add more materials and kits to my classroom that my students can use for educational lessons, independent play time and group/partner activities. These items will help my students to work towards these STEM goals and give them engaging activities!
I am excited to see my students diving into more problem-solving activities that can be used with the kits and materials.
I believe the individual task kits will lend themselves to center and partner work, while many of the manipulative kits can be used in various ways. The kits can be used for solving problems put forth from literature like build a safe structure for the three little pigs or a bridge for the goats. They will also lend themselves to math activities and problem-solving!
I am thrilled to think that these materials can create a more engaging and cooperative classroom!
