Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a school with a large number of students that live below the poverty line, and many of their parents work multiple jobs. During the shutdown and distance learning, many of these families weren't able to do their work, and these students fell behind. COVID-19 has had a great impact on my students because they have already needed extra help, and haven't had access to all of the learning materials that they would need during this pandemic.

My Project

My students need reliable headphones to use in the classroom for both testing and individualized computer instruction. My students also need more access to books that are exciting for them to read, and I would love to implement novel studies into my lessons. Also, I try to encourage my students to think out of the box and be creative thinkers, so I have exploration boxes for them to build and create as an extension to their learning. I have found that this "unstructured" time has been very beneficial for them to talk and interact with each other and problem solve.
