This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Good day to you potential donor! Thank you for stopping by my page. I am a public school librarian in an urban district that has suffered numerous cuts in funding over the past years.
At our Title 1 School, 100% of our student population is a recipient of free/discounted school lunch, and we proudly teach children who have military parents stationed at nearby Ft.
Bragg. Nevertheless, the entire student population is eager to learn and only needs materials and equipment to expose them to opportunities they do not regularly have. This includes real-world problems involving science, math and the arts. Your donation truly makes a difference. Thank you.
My Project
These STEM supplies for our makerspace will assist our fourth graders with connecting real world situations to problems they are currently studying. One of their first projects will be creating a wilderness shelter with the supplies in their project due to their connection to studying Gary Paulsen's novel, Hatchet. The project is related to real life because their shelter is to withstand environmental elements common to North Carolina like snow, rain and wild animals.
To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk" - Thomas Edison.
These supplies will promote such important skills as math, science, engineering as well as communication and leadership. The students will have to use math skills in measurement and other math strategies. They will use science skills to study how the world works. They will use engineering skills as they build and create structures. They will use their communication and leadership skills through groups work, exploration and discussion. Other projects these supplies will include activities like the airplane challenge, tower building, egg challenge and many more. These supplies will greatly benefit all the students by increasing their STEM skills in relation to life experiences.
