Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Although many of my students were eager to lead this project, Amina and Nudar have been selected to lead and represent the student body. Our Goal: To increase the amount of science equipment so that we can better achieve STEM standards and be college and career ready!
After our first project was funded, my students were overwhelmed with excitement. They were shocked to know that individual donors took an interest in their education and provided them with such amazing science equipment! I encouraged students to take an active role in generating their own grant proposal on DonorsChoose.org so that we could possibly receive new microscopes to make STEM research and collaboration more productive.
Microscopes will help my students to better understand the living environment. Having this project fully funded would enrich my students' learning experience and better enable them to learn about cells and practice the lab skills relating to microscope work. If my students had more microscopes, they can work in pairs to use the technology. In an era where college and career readiness is a prominent factor in the teaching and learning process, STEM education is becoming more and more important. I know that my students will achieve greater learning outcomes, given access to 21st century tools and content that will encourage them to think deeply about studying health and life science concepts.
In Their Own Words
We want to increase the amount of science and technology equipment used in our class so that we can better learn and practice science in a more advanced way. Many of us and our classmates are really interested in life science and learning how to explore cells. Although we are learning about microscopes and microscopic organisms, we have not been able to practice as much because there are not enough microscopes.
After completing the online application, we will set up a safe place in the classroom to store the microscopes and a charging space to charge the batteries. We will contact the front desk to let them know we are expecting a package and when they come we will carefully unpack and set them up. We will read user instructions and safety precautions and possibly have to make a sign for the classes to read before using the microscopes.
By taking part in this project, it will solve the hardships and challenges we face with a lack of technology. The money donated will help us buy the correct science materials so that we can engage in professional science labs and expand our knowledge on health and life science in a fun and advanced way. The project is important to us because it takes our knowledge further so that we can be more prepared for high school, college, and future careers.
