My students need STEM materials to enhance their creative thinking and problem solving skills. Strengthening these skills in early grades sets them on a strong path for global citizenship.
This first grade community is ready to learn! Each student is hard working and committed to their education. Of the twenty-five students in my class, nine are Hispanic, two are mixed race, twelve are white, and three are black. More than half of my students are living below the poverty line. For many students, school is a sanctuary of consistency and a place where creativity can flourish.
Our school is a diverse community where families come together for the good of our students.
We know that students experience their richest success when families and school staff partner together. This is a high priority in my first grade class.
Thank you for supporting these deserving, ambitious students!
My Project
My first grade class is just starting out in their life-long learning journey. In this impressionable stage, we are building the blocks for how students will learn for their entire education. When a student has access to materials that invite innovation and creativity, we are encouraging them to grow into this type of a thinker. STEM materials provide this important opportunity.
All my first grade students will be using these STEM materials to spark creative thinking and problem solving for life.
We will have STEM time in the morning every day so that students can explore and design with these materials. I am requesting Magna-Tiles so that students can begin learning design. As first graders create structures and try out ideas, they will need to improvise, learn about structure supports, and what to do when their first plan is not successful. They will also see what is artistically and visually interesting. By using the Design and Build Engineering pack, students will explore real life engineering challenges. They will see what structures work for strength, functionality, and design. With all of these STEM materials, students will receive practice in working together, critical thinking, and problem solving. These skills are necessary for our increasingly technological world. When students begin their educational career with this type of thinking they are preparing to be the innovators, creators, and problem solvers of our future!
