Help me give my students a storage cabinet, stools, and STEM kits for a makerspace where they can develop their STEM skills that they will need to be successful in the 21st century.
I teach amazing, inquisitive students who have a thirst to learn and to create. I am the librarian at an elementary school, and my students are always looking for ways to learn more about their world and themselves through books and hands-on learning.
Around 80% of our students are children of active-duty Navy sailors, pilots, and personnel.
I teach K-4th grade students, and I believe the library is a place for children to grow and explore. I want all students to feel like there is something for them in the library, and incorporating a makerspace will help with that goal. It will also tap into math and science skills they will need in the future, which is so important. The earlier they are exposed to this, the better students they will be.
My Project
According to the Department of Labor, 65 percent of today’s students will grow up having careers that do not exist yet. Incorporating a STEM makerspace in our elementary library will help encourage students at a young age to enjoy science, technology, engineering, and math. I would like a dedicated area of the library where students can come in and without any pressure create their amazing inventions and use their imagination to build.
I want my students to see the joy of math and science at a young age so that they can take that joy with them as they get older and go fearlessly into their future.
For this project, we need kits for the students to use to build and make amazing projects. We also need a storage unit for all of the kits plus seating for the builder table.
