Ms. Friedl from Chicago IL is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need transportation and admission to Legoland to engage in STEM learning!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students love to be active learners. They are very inquisitive students who want to know the ins and outs of everything they interact with. I picked my students up today to begin class, and they each had something they just couldn't wait to share with me ranging from how excited they were to make ice cream today, a hands-on project that turned liquid into a solid, to how a big brother helped one student with her homework last night. Each student was so excited to be at school.
Sometimes this excitement makes me forget the environments that most of my students survive in while they are not at the school building.
Some students have no help with homework at home because mom works overnight in order to ensure they have a safe place to live. These families are struggling, but my students still put on smiling faces each and every day when they walk into my classroom.
I feel this field trip would make a huge impact on my students' learning and understanding of what needs to take place in order to build taller towers! Creating a stable structure is such an amazing mathematical and engineering skill to understand. After the building and learning experience, students will then take part in many different building challenges at school. The Legoland field trip will begin to prepare them for these engineering feats. Students will be asked to create the tallest structure out of just paper and tape, create a bridge that will hold the most weight, build a structure to safely transport Humpty Dumpty from the top of his wall to the floor, build a boat that will hold the most weight before sinking, build a house that the big bad wolf won't be able to blow down, and many more!
I am asking for a trip to Legoland for my Kindergarten students because it will help us all understand the basics of how to build a stable structure.
These skills will then be tested when we go back to our classroom where we will be inspired by this field trip to explore and create with new and different building materials! I am very excited about this possibility and really hope for your support! Thank you!
