Here at our elementary school, it is more than a school, it's a place where everyone is able to focus on every child's needs.
My 3rd graders are beyond amazing because they are the future of our society.
My students come to school every day ready to learn with smiles on their faces. I love coming to work, and they love coming to school. My classroom is a place of love. Most of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch and live in bilingual households. They are outspoken, humorous, and a joy to be around. They're eager to learn new reading and math skills.
STEM projects strengthen and reinforce critical thinking and collaboration skills in and out of the classroom. Many STEM projects involve teamwork and thoughtful dialogue where students give and take and discuss ways to problem solve. With regular access to STEM projects, students are given practice in perseverance, resilience and learning from mistakes. There is no such thing as failure with STEM, only opportunities to try again. STEM projects also give students who may not learn best through conventional methods a chance to excel and shine. My hope is to have a rotating selection of STEM bins (Survive the Quake Engineering Kit, Remote-Control Gear-Bots, and Create-A-Chain Reaction STEM Kit) available for students to use at leisure. This will be an opportunity to learn in an unconventional way.
