Our student population grows more diverse by the day. Income levels, ethnicity, family structures, first languages, interests, and abilities now vary so much that a traditional teaching approach, with a uniform lesson targeted to the average-level student, just doesn't cut it.
We are a Title I school; all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily due to family income levels.
Most of our students do not have the opportunity to participate in skill-based learning activities. I am hoping to offer my students opportunities to learn hands-on integrating nutrition, mathematics, science and real-world experiences.

I am sure if the students are allowed to participate in this project that they will carry over this newly learned knowledge to their everyday lives.
So many of our students are struggling with their finances at home just to get through each day and they don't have opportunities or funds to participate in healthy environmental living habits. I would like to plan student-centered activities that will integrate skill-based learning that promotes career readiness with Science, Health and Nutrition and Math.
My project was inspired by real-world problems. This project inspired me because I think it is so important for students to understand that Science and Math are all around us. We see these in so many professions.
I am requesting an aero garden so my students can research and learn hands-on about gardening and healthy nutrition. This resource will change my students' lives by teaching them how to garden and grow their own food. In addition, they will learn healthier eating habits and how to stay active and healthy. They will explore and learn about the many career opportunities associated with nutrition.
This project will benefit students by allowing them to see how very important Nutrition, Science and Math are in their lives. They will see firsthand how many jobs involve either Science or Math or both. In addition, they will discover many interesting professions and how real-world problems are solved in these professions using Science and Math.
