Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hard working and resilient! Through all of the obstacles they face on a daily basis, my students come every morning ready to learn. My class started this year at an average of two grade levels behind in reading and math. I have several students receiving special education services, and most of my class are English language learners. Many come from single-parent homes and others don't have a home at all.
I may not be able to control the environment they are coming from, but I can control the environment they walk into every morning.
We work collectively to create and maintain a positive, welcoming, and safe space to learn. Our classroom is more than a community of learners, we truly are a family! I am so proud when I see my students protecting each other and lifting one another through kind words and encouragement. I do my best to provide them with everything I possibly can to create a rigorous, yet safe and loving space to learn.
My Project
For the upcoming school year, I am planning to create a welcoming classroom environment to transition to project based learning. The requested items will help make our learning environment feel more like a home. The simple additions like the plants and bulletin paper will transform the room and make it a place that students want to be in.
I want my students to come back to school in August and be greeted with a new STEM lab classroom for a new year of learning!
The paper will cover our bulletin boards and allow me to designate a space to showcase student work samples. The shelves will hold communal supplies to ensure that students have access to them.
