Our school is a safe place for students to learn and grow. They come from low socioeconomic homes with 95% of the students receiving free and reduced-price lunches. The population is very transient with a high number of foster children, children being raised by grandparents, aunts/uncles, and living with other families.
Our students don't have basic necessities and need help meeting academic, physical, and emotional needs.
When they come to school, it is difficult for them to be successful because of the things they lack at home. Hunger, not knowing where they will sleep at night, not having a warm coat or shoes, makes it difficult to concentrate on learning. We work hard every day to meet their basic needs, create a safe loving environment, and still meet their academic needs.
STEM has become a huge focus in schools but teachers and students need the resources to excel. This project will allow my students to research science, technology, engineering, and math to become proficient in these subjects.
The iPad and case in this project will open the world of STEM to my low income students.
My students have little access to technology at home and school. Having an iPad in the classroom will allow them to research science and engineering topics and give them opportunities to practice their math skills using online apps geared to make them proficient mathematicians. This project will make STEM come alive for a group of amazing 1st graders.
