My students need STEM materials that will provide them with hands on learning. We need project based kits, manipulative materials, content aligned resources, and seating to help solidify their learning and develop critical thinking.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year we are so fortune to be at a brand new and beautiful school! There are so many exciting things about being at a new school but it also comes with its challenges. Being a new school means that you start with very little and build up as you go. Additionally, the students who came to us were all re-zoned from their original elementary schools. When I think of how hard that must be for a child, it makes me want to do everything I can to make the transition easier.
This school year has been especially hard for us due to Hurricane Harvey.
At the beginning of the school year, our city faced a horrific natural disaster. We were all so fortune to be okay and our immediate area received little damage. I have an exceptional group of students who all come from wonderful families. Under normal circumstances I am sure they would accommodate me but I cannot ask for anything more than I have already because I know there are hurricane victims who need their financial help more than my classroom does.
My Project
Every student learns differently and it has always been my goal to reach every single student every single day. Many students learn by using their hands and applying what they have learned to a project. By having STEM materials in our classroom, my students are going to be able to further their learning and I will be able to reach more students. I want my students to be able to apply what they are learning in the classroom in a manner that could better suit them. I also want my students to feel a sense of pride in applying what they have learned.
STEM materials are going to teach skills that come with trial and error to a level far beyond what I am able to explicitly teach.
By having materials like the Folk Tale STEM kit, my students will be able to engineer area projects that relate to their traditional literature reading unit. They will also be able to apply their knowledge of plant growth learned in Science and economic necessity learned in Social Studies.
Using the Small Group STEM challenges, my students will be ale to take on challenges that encourage and further them to take risks and own their learning. The MagnaTile and Geometric Shapes kits will be help my students explore and build in their geometry unit. I also would like my students to use the Playstix, Crystal Climbers, and Ramp and Ball sets to discover other concepts while learning. And who wouldn't want a comfy seat on the floor while doing all of these things?
STEM materials will be used in cross curricular methods to teach all subject areas. I aim to allow my students to not only use the STEM materials in guided lessons but also with exploration experiments of their choice.
