Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are outgoing and eager to learn new things every day. They love reading and enjoy special projects that help them reach beyond their goals. My students have strong reading skills and require a challenge to continue growth. Keeping this in mind, to best meet their needs it is critical to provide reading materials at appropriate levels. While my students tend to be more advanced readers, they struggle in math. We work daily to build fluency in foundation skills.
We are a Kindergarten to fifth grade Title I elementary school with more than three hundred children.
All students receive free breakfast and/or lunch. We are a proactive school with several before and after-school tutoring and community outreach programs. Our students' families struggle financially, but everyone is dedicated to helping our parents provide for their children.
The educators and support staff are amazing in their dedication and determination to make a difference in the lives of our students. Our goal is to give each student the very best education and the best support possible at all times. We will not fail in our mission, and our students share our determination to succeed!
My Project
My students really enjoy hands-on practical experiences. They appreciate the opportunity to problem solve and be creative.
STEM projects allow the students the opportunity to use creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration skills.
I would love to provide my class with more opportunities to use science, technology, engineering, and math to engineer creative problem-solving solutions using the engineering design process. Already this year, we have developed incubators, solar ovens, recycled racers, and creative popcorn containers to solve a space issue. I know the students would love a chance to develop and engineer bubble wands.
