This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a neighborhood school in St. Louis, Missouri. My students are 20 lively and empathetic kids. My students qualify for free breakfast and lunch, and come from hard-working, low-income families.
While many students are below grade-level, they have grown so much and are so excited to learn!
Though many of them do not have stable lives at home, and I strive to create a home for them in my classroom. My students are curious and caring and I would love to encourage them through resources filled with culturally responsive, social-emotional learning.
My Project
What adorns classroom walls creates an environment. Students are inspired and motivated when a classroom is print-rich.
These supplies will give my classroom an aspect it is missing, which is an emphasis in STEM and what it means to be a critical, creative thinker.
Learning about careers opens up student minds and motivates student learning. In my class, students are able to choose books to read throughout the day. These books will connect student interests to futures that are exciting and creative.
School is meant to prepare students for the future, and these resources will excite students about what that future may hold.
