In my 5th grade class, we group students by ability to meet the needs of every student. They thrive on interactive lessons and work well in groups. Problem solving is an area I emphasize with small groups so they learn how to communicate to solve problems collaboratively.
I have found that hands-on learning is engaging and helps students understand concepts at a deeper level.
Hands-on learning reaches all students, regardless of their ability level. Working cooperatively in groups also prepares students for higher education and helps them gain academic language skills for communication.
The Fiesta Bowl Grant will make it possible for me to reach and enhance the learning of all my students, regardless of their level.
My Project
Students will learn how to code and have computer programs move robots. I will pair my ability to teach coding to students with the new technology to bring their level of understanding higher. They will also be able to design items to create in 3D with a printer. These items will help my students gain 21st Century skills. Students will be engaged and work collaboratively to achieve their goals. All activities will be student centered and they will have the opportunity to create and design many things. If possible, we will be able to share the technology to other classrooms in 5th grade. Another desire is to create an after school program to bring STEM to students of all ages and grades.
