The students from my school live near one of the worst projects in the Bronx, New York. To keep them away from trouble One World Middle School has tried to make as many after school activities available to all. Many of our students are living in low poverty areas and view coming to this public school as a way to escape their home lives. Some don't even have homes to go too. We try our best to provide students with access to after school programs, technology and hands on activities. We are trying to create an all girl Engineering program to keep out female students more engaged in mathematics and science. We do not have to funds to start the program and by the supplies.
My Project
At our school we try to create activities that will open more doors for our students. Our focus this year is to help our minority females gain interest in technology, mathematics and science. We want to create fun STEM activities that will inspire our female students and encourage them to get involved with high-tech STEM fields.
We need more kids to see the world of possibilities waiting for them–like the 4 million science and tech jobs available in the U.S..
Giving our students the tools to introduce them to science and tech jobs will help them look into high schools and colleges that are in these fields. This project will give our students hands on activities that they will never forget!
