My students need STEM materials that are developmentally appropriate. The Ramps & Balls Exploration set will allow them to build and knock down over and over. This exploration will lead to some great STEM learning!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The kids in my classroom are amazing, silly, messy, and wonderful. They love to explore, ask questions, and take risks. They are eager to learn about the world around them. Sometimes the world can be a tricky place for the kids in our room. My goal as their teacher is to help them learn and grow into the best versions of themselves. I want them to be proud of who they are and what they can do in this world!
My classroom is home to our township's Functional Academics Program.
The FA program is built for kids who are socially, academically, and functionally well below their peers. Everyday tasks can be challenging for these kiddos. You'd never know it by their determination, zest for life, and willingness to explore.
My Project
STEM is the exploration of science, technology, engineering, and math. In a special education classroom setting, STEM might look a little different. Our goal for STEM work is to help the kiddos understand the world around them. Having materials that they can build and knock down, scoop and pour, and squish and mash will encourage exploration.
The kiddos are so excited about hands-on learning!
The materials selected for the project will encourage them to explore and will lead to making connections with the world around them. Having materials like dried beans, Dew Drops (fun water beads) and ping pong balls (even though is says beer pong balls---eeek!) in our sensory table will be beneficial to all. Different textures and different materials will provide sensory input for kiddos with autism and will encourage side by side play as well as STEM connections.
The Ramps & Balls exploration kit will be perfect for the boys and girls who like to explore STEM by building. Part of STEM exploration is making mistakes and that can be tricky for all kids...especially those with special needs. The materials I've chosen will provide a safe exploration environment where kids can make mistakes and try again.
