My students are lively 5-6 year old kindergartners that love learning and experiencing everything school has to offer them! They are a great group of children that come to school eager to play and learn everyday.
For some of them school is the only safe and consistent experience that they have in their life so we try to provide a safe fun learning experience everyday.
Even though we have experienced great financial cut backs in our district my principal, other staff members, and myself have gone through great lengths to never make the students ever feel that they don't have what we need to have a successful learning day. Most of the necessary materials we need are purchased with the teachers money out of their own pocket. It has become quite a hardship just to supply our classrooms with the essentials like pencils, crayons, and paper every year.
My Project
My students would love new materials and manipulatives in the room to make stem kits. With the limited time we have in the day we try to use all of our time wisely so we have been using different materials around the classroom to make stem kits to incorporate the sciences in our everyday curriculum for things like morning activites, or "I'm done" activities to make sure there is a purpose to every part of our day.
We would like some new updated materials like playstix, connecting straws, play doh, and a fairy tale problem solving kit to enhance and add more options to our stem kits.
The stem kits that we already have in place have been amazing additions for building community, communication, and problem solving skills all the while learning with a hands on approach. We would love to continue to our stem kits and continue our learning and development!
