My students come from a low income community with families who have immigrated from their country in order to make a better life for their children.
In our Title I school we aim to meet the needs of all of our students, and no matter the language they speak, they seem to find common ground and ways to communicate when doing rich hands-on STEM activities.
My students are eager to learn in all academic areas and try their best to immerse themselves in all subject matters, especially STEAM.
The Botley robot will allow students to code using a "screen-free" technique. This will help students to learn the basics of coding! I also plan to hide words around the room and have the students program the robot to collect the words, and then put the words together to write a sentence!
Students will be able to use Botley in small groups allowing them opportunity to encourage fair play, communication and collaboration, key skills to develop for all learners.
This computer science learning center will bring high engagement, teamwork and programming skills to all of my classes in Kindergarten through second grade.
