My students need literacy brought to life through engineering with different types of S.T.E.M. materials. They need Fairy Tales Problem Solving STEM Kits, Stand-Up Magnetic Design Center, and Engineer-A-Coaster Activity Kit.
Busy hands with curious minds are found in my classroom on a typical day. They love to listen to stories and read them with friends. Fairy tales and fables help me to keep childhood alive in their hearts and teach lessons in citizenship.
My students come from many walks of life.
We are not a rich school or a poor school. We are an eclectic group of students and teachers. Some are brought by the military and others have been here forever. But we all have the same goal to make all students learn and succeed.
My Project
My students need these materials to encourage learning through play in literacy and S.T.E.M. Fairy Tales and Fables can be reintroduced into the classroom through S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) to teach them more than lessons in character and story elements. They need Fairy Tales Problem Solving STEM Kits, Stand-Up Magnetic Design Center, and Engineer-A-Coaster Activity Kit. I will use these S.T.E.M. kits and magnetic walls to stretch literacy across the curriculum.
Children can read a story than solve the story's problem through these kits. For example, helping The Three Billy Goats Gruff construct a bridge. Yes, the goats need to cross the bridge and avoid the troll, but how was the bridge constructed? How many blocks make the bridge stable? Children can build the houses of The Three Little Pig and through self-exploration students get this hands-on experience making stable structures. During my new S.T.E.M. station, students will engage their brains to creatively help some of the classic tales from childhood while falling in love with literacy and engineering.
This project will change my students' lives because it will introduce concepts in learning that will lead them to become better thinkers in the future.
Can you imagine a classroom where you become the story and an architect at the same time? My students need these materials to grasp an opportunity in fields that will lead them to better careers and a stronger foundation in critical thinking.
