Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an enthusiastic group of children. They are optimistic and eager to learn. One hundred percent of my students receive free lunch. Sixty percent of my student's families have recently immigrated to the United States. Their parents try their best but are limited due to economic constraints and have not been able to master the English language at this time. My parents are active in their child's education. During parent-teacher conference we had 100% participation. Each parent wanted to know what they could do to help their child excel in their education.
My students are an inquisitive group of hard-working students that give their best every day they walk through the door.
Again for the second year in a row, we have remained a level one plus school. This is not only accredited to the teachers and our hard-working students, but also for the support our students receive from their parents. We encourage our students to dream big and not let their situations determine their future but instead to focus on their efforts and their willingness to excel.
My Project
At the Pathfinders Summer Institute, I will be receiving professional development training on how to bring The Junior Botball Challenge to our school. We currently do not have a STEM program and our students are so looking forward to having such a program. I will be able to teach computer science and critical thinking skills as well as the application of engineering design process. I will be collaborating with several teachers to roll out an effective and engaging curriculum. The curriculum is aligned with Common Core Standard and the Next Generation Science Standards.
This STEM program will open the doors of technology integrating math and science at the same time, our students will be better prepared for the future.
The inquiry-based program focuses on discrete programming skills and engineering design concepts design to improve computational thinking skills and promote mastery. This program will reach students from the beginning level to mastery level. Students will be able to apply these skills to their reading, writing, math, and science. Our students will be engaged and empowered.
