Help me give my students the ultimate Osmo experience during Reading and Math!!
This project expired on June 18, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students are hard-working first graders who are full of excitement to learn with hands-on activities! We would like to continue to fill our shelves with lots of materials that promote exploration, engineering, and hands-on activities. Our first funded project focused on hands-on materials that helped students connect all areas of STEM. It has exceeded my expectations in promoting critical thinking and reasoning skills. This project will help continue to build a classroom community where all students can learn, succeed, and celebrate each other's strengths.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Osmo fosters all the key areas of STEM. It also promotes creative, problem solving, art skills, and connects with our learning standards.
The Osmo Genius Kit includes 3 activities that have outstanding benefits to students:
Tangram: Tangrams foster spatial relational skills and perceptual reasoning. We use the tangram shapes to solve mathematical and scientific problems, such as the building of composite shapes and understanding symmetry.
Words: Words teaches spelling and critical thinking skills. It is a great tool to use solo, with a partner, or with a group! Words can be used during Guided Reading Groups, as the puzzles and activities promote proper spelling and word challenges.
Numbers: Numbers teaches counting, addition and multiplication. One of the First Grade goals is for students to be fluent in math facts. Numbers is a great resource to strengthen number sense and fluency.
Finally, the Osmo is just plain fun!! The students are engaged and challenged!
