This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a school in a high poverty area where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students have come from single parent homes or do not currently live with a parent or family member. Additionally, we also serve many families who are homeless.
We also are fortunate to be a school who serves a large population of refugee students and students with disabilities.
These two groups of students are an integral part of what makes our school amazing!
My Project
Students in low income schools do not always have access to the most up to date technology and curriculum. Students also do not necessarily have access to hands-on activities. Due to learning and language differences, my students do not always excel when they only have a science textbook to learn from.
My students need STEM materials to explore the area of Genetics within their science curriculum in order to maximize their learning.
Students with special education needs and student whose native language is not English flourish when they have activities that showcase their learning through means other than reading and writing.
