Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a very diverse Title I school in the inner city, which serves students in grades PreK-5 and provides rigorous academics and a safe learning environment. All children receive free breakfast and lunch due to this neighborhood's socioeconomic status. They come from a wonderful mix of ethnic and economic backgrounds, and despite any challenges that my students may face, they come to school daily prepared to do their best.
Each morning my students actively come into our classroom eager and excited to start a new day of learning.
They walk into the classroom bursting with energy, creativity and full of life. My students truly inspire me with their passion and insatiable love for learning.
My Project
My students work in small groups during our STEM activity time and these materials will support small group, hands-on practice. These hands-on construction sets will be used to challenge my students's critical thinking and allow for small group collaboration.
Research suggests that STEM related activities enhance classroom learning and impact students in a positive way.
These STEM learning toys will build problem solving and spatial recognition skills, help them understand cause and effect, and so much more. All things that young engineers need to learn! My students will explore how gears connect and move together as an important mechanism for engineering. Geostix will give my students solid, hands-on practice with a variety of geometry concepts, and enable problem solving, creativity and construction.
