Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are smart, curious, and eager learners. They always surprise me with how much they are learning and how much they want to learn. They come from a small town in California with very limited resources at their hands but that does not stop them from wondering, exploring, and creating.
My students love engaging in opportunities that keep their hands and brains interested and learning.
They are curious learners and enjoy teaching one another just as much as they love learning. It is a great joy to come into the classroom and be met with so much enthusiasm for learning!
My Project
All students are learners but the best way to encourage all students is by letting them touch, manipulate, and do. The different sets of magnetic building blocks, the variety of addition games, the number balance, the sticks for building, and the math folders and rack are excellent for hands-on learning. I want them to see that math is not just a paper and pencil activity but that it can be fun and engaging.
All these items are not only beneficial for their leaning but they will spark my students creativity to build, discover, and create.
The building blocks and sticks allow them to think outside the box to be inspired to create and share their accomplishments. My first graders want to be involved in their learning and when they are given the opportunity to learn by doing the more they learn and retain. All these items will encourage my students to keep learning but most importantly you are giving them the opportunity to see that learning is not just a paper and pencil activity.
