As the school media specialist I see all of the students at my school, grades pre-k through 5th. Haywood County is a wonderful place but many of our families don't have the means for technology, and STEM toys for their children. In my library I seek to provide equal access to technology resources for all. This new equipment will go into our Makerspaces and help my students explore the world around them by problem solving through play. Thank you!
Makerspaces are an amazing way for students to learn through the power of play. I started building our schools Makerspace last year, but my budget is small and my goals are lofty. We have some wonderful starter equipment, but the more resources we have the more opportunities our students will get to use the space. Right now students must share all of the equipment, when students work with our coding robots, or Lego kits students must work in groups of 6 or 7. By adding additional educational resources, more students will get a chance to play and learn on a daily basis in the library.
