Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a wonderful community full of super special kiddos that so desperately want to learn and have a bright future. Our low income, Title I school has so many students whose home language is different than English. Many of these students have parents who are unable to speak English which makes communication difficult between home and school. Despite the difficulties, so many of these kids come to school everyday eager to learn and every one of them deserve the best opportunity we can give.
My Project
This project is all about bringing STEM activities into my 2nd grade classroom. So often as teachers, we focus on reading and math and science unfortunately takes a back seat. I am making a commitment to change that in my classroom this year and moving forward in future years.
These activities that I am requesting are necessary for giving hands on applications to my students to show that math and science play a big part in our world.
This STEM bundle provides all the level-appropriate tools that I need to integrate STEM into my curriculum and help students explore important concepts hands on! From a design lab that helps kids design, create and test a working windmill to innovative kits that encourage problem solving through classic folk tales—this bundle will keep kids learning in thrilling new ways! I think that these activities will also allow students to see the importance of team work. Students that may be discouraged because they are not the best reader or the best equation solver may just find that these hands on activities help show their potential.
