Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school saying is, "Better today than yesterday! Better tomorrow than today!" I want to make their tomorrow better!
My class consists of a diverse group of learners.
My class has 26 second grade students of varying abilities. The socio-economic background of our students is reflected by our 97% free and reduced-price lunch rate.
I teach in an urban inner city school rich with diversity. Most of my students need additional learning materials to meet grade level expectations. Please help me to make tomorrow better for them!
My Project
My students enjoy learning in STEM lessons. One way to introduce them to STEM Professions is to read the exciting book series by Andrea Beaty. She has taken children and transformed them into a Scientist, Engineer, and Architect. My students really enjoyed listening to Rosie Revere Engineer and Iggy Twist Scientist from our last funded project. Now I'd love to introduce them to Ada Twist Scientist!
Having these Stem stories to read aloud to my students allow them to dream about becoming a Scientist, Engineer, or Architect.
It allows them to see a child their own age becoming one of these professions in real life. It will unlock their dreams and have them dreaming of becoming a Scientist, Engineer, or Architect in the future.
We use the Magic School Bus series to learn about many science topics in our second grade classroom. Having the Magic School Bus Science Kits available for my learners to explore during Science will get them excited to learn. They will have a microscope to have them look through and see what Scientists see in a lab. My students would really enjoy having these materials available to them in the classroom during Science lessons.
