Have you ever been given a chance to make students fall in love with reading. Well, I have the chance everyday. I have to admit I have the best job in the world!
I work in a 99% Title 1 building.
The students in my class yearn for positive attention and the knowledge that someone loves them.
When they walk into my class they know that I love them, but that I have very big expectations for them. There is not one student in my class that I do not believe can be amazing and productive adults in our community someday. It is my job to make sure that these students can read and write.
My Project
Have you ever build a 3D object or played a game of Mine craft? Well imagine that you are 11-12 years old and your teacher gives you the opportunity to do so.
Using the trilogy of The Hunger Games I am building a new curriculum for a brand new elective class at our school. My Principal has challenged me to build a STEM ELA class that students would line up to get into this class as an elective. What better way of getting the kids to fall in love with reading, bring in some new age learning with book trailers, 3D projects, and of course the Great Trilogy of the Hunger Games.
Not only will they have fun with hands-on activities, but the students will be reading on a daily basis.
The children are really excited that I have come up with these great ideas, they also know that some things might not get done unless we have the whole set of books.
With these books the students will be opening a whole new world of high thinking and brain challenging activities. Give these kids a chance to unlock the future through reading and technology.
