Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I work with students who are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. However, despite their circumstances, they love to learn and I'm trying to create an environment where they'll be competitive in all aspects for digital learning and computer science.
My Project
We will use Sphero Minis in our class to take coding to the next level. Students will gain hands-on experience using these robots. They can move the Sphero using facial recognition. They will be able to compete with each other using a maze. What better way to learn valuable 21st century skills that will prepare them for future education and career endeavors. Having these robots in the classroom is a year-long activity that will engage students and inspire them to look forward to the future.
These Sphero Mini Robots will engage students' creativity to write basic code programs.
This process will provide scaffolding they need to increase their knowledge to program more difficult projects in the future.
