Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This virus has changed all of our lives in an instant. We said "goodbye", expecting to see the students right after a week of spring break. That week turned into two and was then extended to the end of the year. Seeing me behind the screen has become their new norm. I try to keep it as normal as possible, seeing them every day, joking around with them, and helping them to be as ready for the next grade as I possibly can. All...behind a screen...miles away.
My Project
My students come from diverse backgrounds. Many students don't have the technology and have been connecting with me from their parents' phones. I wanted to somehow continue their love for learning on our new platform. I also wanted to continue the monthly STEM activities that we have been doing in class.
We are going to start an animal project for science in our distance learning curriculum.
Students will be creating an animal and its habitat. I would like to use a 3D printer to bring their animals to life. They will begin with research, then create a picture of their animals. Then, together, we will create the model of their animals. I hope to have this done before the end of the year so that I can surprise them with the model of their animals in their end of the year gift basket that I will be hand-delivering to each student.
