STEM Day Spring 2024

My Project

Each spring our school holds a STEM day where students rotate through stations and spend the day with hands on explorations of scientific concepts.

We invite you to sponsor this memorable day for our students which helps our them realize that science, technology, engineering and math are not just school subjects, they are a lot of fun.

Stations will include

Salt and Pepper: Students will watch the station leader mix salt and pepper then ask if it can be separated. Children then they will learn a little about insulators and the generation of static electricity, before using static charged spoons to remove the pepper.

Blindfolded Squares: This problem solving station will require logic, creativity, and communication to succeed. Groups of students will blindfolded then handed a loop of tug rope. They must problem solve a way of making a square without sight.

Lego mazes: Young engineers will make lego mazes on the base plates that have been ordered combined with our existing legos. Then they can compete for speed in rolling marbles through the mazes.

Cup Blowing Challenge: Students will learn that they can blow the top cup off of a stack using lift created by zones of high and low pressure created by blowing. This can lead the way to an elementary introduction of bernoulli's principle. A second demonstration of blowing between a pair of balloons hanging from strings can also reinforce the idea of movement caused by air pressure

Bonus good news - many of these supplies can be reused. The plastic cups are great in classroom STEM stations for tower building. The Lego building plates can house cities for 24 children, and the tug ropes are sorely needed to prep for spring track meet.
