Imagine the joy that comes from a low-income student when given the opportunity to soar academically at school when it seems impossible at home. Imagine the future possibilities of this student when given tools to help them succeed.
The students I teach are sixth graders at an elementary school with economic diversity.
Many of my students come from low socioeconomic homes. Several are from single-parent families and lack the technology needed to succeed in the ever-changing world we live in.
My Project
My students are intrigued and captivated by the use of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) practices in our classroom. STEM practices help them to engage and process information in a way that allows them to create and retain knowledge and understanding.
3D printing is an art where students can use technology to create and produce materials.
This 3D printer and filament will give my students the capability to engage and create while using science, technology, engineering and math; thus improving their creativity, critical thinking and mastery of STEM.
I have seen how incorporating STEM practices in the classroom can positively affect my students' desire to learn.
