Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my second grade class come from all over the Orlando area, some driving from an hour away, to our choice school because we provide a strong curriculum and meaningful learning experiences. My students come from various backgrounds. For example, some of my students have immigrated from other countries and some speak little to no English when they begin in my class. Last year I was able to help my English Language Learners who spoke no English when we began the school year to read on a first grade level by the end of the school year.
My students are eager to learn and excited for new learning experiences.
I strive to individualize lessons for the type of learners in my classroom each year. Last year when students were having a difficult time understanding cause and effect, I planned a series of science experiments such as making butter, finding objects that were magnetic, and finding objects that would soak up water. Students were able to more easily find cause and effect in their reading after discovering real life causes and effects. Curious and enthusiastic are the two words I would use to best describe my eager learners!
My Project
Our STEM classroom has access to many types of technology such as computers, robots, and drones. One piece of technology we are lacking in our classroom is a set of Kindle Fire tablets.
Tablets for our classroom would help create more meaningful lessons each day.
Apps focusing on reading and math skills can be individualized for each student to help provide independent or small group practice targeted to help fill gaps in their learning. When learning about places or science concepts, VR and interactive apps can help bring the real world into our classroom. Help bring more technology to our STEM classroom!
