STEM Classroom Lab (Incorporating Science And Math)

My students need different STEM kits to assist in their ability to be college and career ready, building machines, constructing levers, collecting data for analysis helps prepare students for the real world.

My Students

My students come from a military family background where many of them are shuffled from place to place. These children are special and sacrifice so much every time they have to relocate. They deserve the very best education has to offer. My students should have everything they need to excel in mathematics and science to prepare them for the state testing. The amount of students performing on grade level has increased by forty-four percent since my implementation of my original project (Creating a Successful Math Workshop) in October. The stem kits and experiment kits that I wish to purchase will enable me to teach STEM with ease. I am particularly excited about Combustion Science Kit, the Chemistry Kit and the Volcano Science Kit. Please support my new project (A STEM Classroom Lab) to help take my students to the next step, explaining their mathematical thinking through STEM activities.

My Project

STEM is an instructional approach to teaching based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Rather than teach the four disciplines in isolation, STEM integrates them along with reading and writing to create a cohesive design based on real-world applications. According to data collected by the U.S. Department of Education, only sixteen percent of high school students show an interested in a STEM career.

Since instruction involving STEM teaches our children to be critical thinkers and problem solvers, STEM prepares our students to be college and career ready.

STEM exposes children to career fields that they may never have known existed. An education centered around STEM can make students curious about careers that they never thought would interest them and helps build confidence as a "scientist".

The materials I have picked out create a good assortment of instructional materials needed to create a STEM lab that I can use during my current math work shop. I will be able to collect data, analyze results and reflect on the learning process. Many of our common core standards require students in mathematics to think critically about the mathematical process and explain their thinking. Hands-on STEM experiments takes the thinking from abstract to concrete. The STEM kits that I am most excited about are produced by Engino. Three examples are Mechanics: Gears and Drivers, Mechanics: Levers and Linkages, and Mechanics: Pulley Drives. These kits will make incorporating STEM into education a breeze.
