Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a science and technology magnet school. We are a Title I school. Located in a high poverty area. Half our student body is from the surrounding neighborhood. The other half are magnet students. Magnet students come from all areas in our district.
The students in my class are eager enthusiastic learners.
We set high expectations, and they always step up to the challenge. Although they face many challenges outside of school at school, they overcome those challenges and succeed.
My Project
My project includes 4 different Fairy Tale Problem Solving STEM kits. These STEM kits will extend our english language arts Lesson into science. After students listen to a fairy tale they will work in science teams where they will define a simple problem that can be solved through the development of a new or improved object or tool. They will then design, create and test their designs.
Students will engineer and design a house that the big bad wolf won't be able to blow down, construct a bridge that keeps 3 goats safe from the mean ugly troll and build a chair Goldilocks wont be able to break!
I hope that these STEM activities will stimulate students to explore each challenging situation until they find a solution. Students will develop perseverance that will help them tackle many more challenges that may come their way.
