I teach second grade to a dynamic group of learners in Washington state. Our school has a STEM focus, which is woven through all subjects, to ensure students are accessing the curricula in the most meaningful ways possible. The neighborhood we teach in represents a variety of cultures/families, all of whom are represented in our classrooms. We have students who speak multiple languages and who have varying levels of financial need.
Excitement is the name of the game in our classroom!
Whether we are learning about poetic forms, the life cycle of the Brassica plant, or how to read with grit, the students in my classes are excited to soak up all they can.
My Project
We just received news that the school will start remotely in our school district. While we are working hard to determine schedules and activities to meet students and families face to face, I already miss being able to engage in hands-on activities with my class during the first several weeks of school.
I would love to put together a STEM supply pack for students to complete a STEM engineering activity each week.
The pack would include tape, paper plates, cups, paper clips, and more - I will present one STEM challenge each week for students to complete, present, and share! Examples include building bridges, towers, boats, and more!
