Our students come from many diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Some of our students are English Language Learners and have completely immersed themselves into learning a new language. Our students come from all areas of our city including some areas that have high pockets of poverty. All students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Our school is part of the New York, Pre-K and 3K for All Initiative.
This is the fifth year this program has been implemented. As educators, we take pride in being pioneers of this new initiative. However, with the lack of materials, it hinders our ability to provide a quality Pre-K program for all students.
We work collaboratively to make it possible, but feel our students could achieve so much more with the necessary tools. We want our students to be prepared and successful in their future school endeavors.
My Project
As a early childhood teacher, it is my duty to inspire the youngest of learners as I prepare them for a twenty-first century world requiring critical thinking. Allowing students to utilize high-interest materials including magnets, letters, and blocks in collaborative groups will allow for fine motor skills development, turn-taking, creative thinking, and much more!
3K students learn through play, exploration, and hands-on use of learning materials, and these amazing STEM manipulatives will provide endless opportunities for cognitive and social development!
Students will be able to imagine, design, plan, build, test, modify, and retest during STEM center time. I can't think of a better way to start each day than with student-centered, high-interest, thought-provoking design and building challenges!
