Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In a school of over 800 students in North Texas, my students are some of the brightest kids in our area. They are always asking questions, love to read, joke around, and research many topics of their interest. My students are very much into technology, reading, and science. On top of all their academics, we are also learning how to be better students, friends, and sons and daughters.
They really take pride in everything they do and I am very grateful to be a part of their journey in growing up.
My Project
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It is very important for me to incorporate STEM in my classroom because it is a part of our everyday lives. Science and math are everywhere in the world around us and we are exposed to them every day. Technology keeps growing and is in every aspect of our lives as well. Engineering allows students to tackle the challenges and become problem solvers.
These students are the future and we need to get them ready for jobs that don't even exist yet.
By exposing students to STEM and giving them opportunities to explore STEM-related concepts, they will develop a passion for it and hopefully pursue a job in a STEM. STEM activities also prove hands-on learning which makes learning fun and interesting. The lessons are more memorable when we do STEM vs. just reading and a worksheet. STEM also allows students to practice the scientific method and learn to work together with their peers.
When doing STEM activities, it can get a bit cluttered and overwhelming. These bins will be used to help with the organization of our STEM materials such as toothpicks, batteries, markers, tape, toilet paper rolls, straws, worksheets, etc. I already most of the STEM materials. I just need your help with the organization bins. My goal is to label the bins and activities so that students can go into the STEM center in class and work on these challenges when they finish their work early, as an incentive, and of course when we do whole group STEM activities.
Please help us finish our STEM center so that these boys and girls will grow up to be amazing problem solvers and will be ready for STEM careers. Thank you for your support!
